Going back to school to get a job

As work in many industries dries up, a growing number of Americans are retraining for new fields in hopes of securing employment. This is certainly true for the jobless in Rhode Island, where unemployment is at 10%, the highest rate in more than 30 years and the second highest in the nation

It’s getting close to 10% in Los Angeles as well. Got to Survive!

Bloody Monday: Over 71,400 jobs lost

The final week of January began with a bloodbath for the job market, as over 71,400 more cuts were announced on Monday alone.

At least six companies from manufacturing and service industries announced cost-cutting initiatives that included slashing thousands of jobs.

More than 200,000 job cuts have been announced so far this year, according to company reports. Nearly 2.6 million jobs were lost over 2008, the highest yearly job-loss total since 1945.

The shoe is 1 of 5 designed by Mr. West for the Louis Vuitton fashion house is an all red mid top with a quilted flap on the back heel to tuck your pants in as Kanye himself likes to. PARIS — Marc Jacobs and the Louis Vuitton men’s studio director Paul Helbers have some design competition this season. Kanye West, who was sitting front row at the Vuitton show, has designed a line of five LV sneakers. Only one design, above, was featured in the show — a monochromatic midtop with no frills, save for a quilted flap in the back, all the easier to tuck pants into. “The inspiration came from a jacket with a huge collar in the movie ‘Dune,’ ” West says. “Most sneakers focus on the tongue, so I wanted to do something different.” West knows whereof he speaks: he says he has no idea how many shoes he owns, but he does know that he routinely needs to send shipments off to storage. The LV-meets-Kanye kicks will be available at Louis Vuitton stores in June.
